Join us for a conversation with Dr. Lee Moore, the author of China’s Backstory: The History Beijing Doesn’t Want You to Read (Unsung Voices, 2025). After getting his Ph.D. at the University of Oregon, he worked as an adjunct professor there, teaching Chinese and Taiwanese literature and film. He is the founder of the Chinese Literature Podcast, and he occasionally writes for publications such as The Economist, The China Books Review and The China Project.
In advance praise of Dr. Lee's forthcoming book, Robert Guest, Deputy Editor of The Economist, noted, "Are you confused about China? Hazy about Taiwan, the Uyghurs or capitalism with Chinese characteristics? Lee Moore has written a wonderfully accessible book explaining the history behind the news, and bringing it to life in straightforward, everyday language. China’s Backstory is as rich and spicy as a Sichuan hotpot, full of delightful and sometimes shocking morsels."
