About "Facilitating Challenging Conversations: Preparing Yourself":
Hosted by San Diego State University
Conversations around justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion are important and necessary to ensure meaningful action; they also can be challenging and fraught with the potential for missteps, misunderstandings, and pushback from students and/or colleagues. Addressing these challenges effectively requires the facilitator to have a strong awareness of their own biases and emotional triggers. In this workshop, participants will be invited to engage in self-reflection (both during and after the workshop) in order to prepare to handle these conversations with compassion and equanimity.
Participants will: Explore the challenges they anticipate facing when engaging in DEI conversations Reflect on their own biases and triggers and consider how those manifest in interactions with others.
