Community-Based Research: Engage to Make Change
In partnership with the Faculty Center for Excellence, the Office of Community Engagement presents Community-Based Research: Engage to Make Change. The presentation focuses on Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR), a partnership approach to research that equitably involves community members, organizational representatives, researchers, and others in all aspects of the research process, with all partners in the process contributing expertise and sharing in the decision-making and ownership (Israel et al., 1988).
The keynote presenters, Ethel Nicdao (Sociology) and David Chavez (Psychology), will discuss the foundations, key principles, and best practices of CBPR. Jennifer Alford (Geography and Environmental Studies), Oraib Mango (World Languages and Literatures) and Laura Kamptner (Psychology) will share their experiences developing community partnerships, involving students in the research process, and leveraging institutional resources for success.
