4 Steps to Get Started on Nearpeer

  1. Check Your Email
    After you’re admitted to CSUSB, keep an eye on your inbox. We’ll send you a special invitation link to create your Nearpeer account.
     
  2. Create Your Profile
    Follow the link to set up your Nearpeer account. Fill out basic info about your major, interests, and background—this helps Nearpeer connect you with like-minded Coyotes.
     
  3. Find & Join Groups
    Explore different groups based on academic programs, hobbies, or campus organizations. Joining a group lets you chat with other students who share your interests or goals.
     
  4. Start Connecting
    Send a friendly “hello” message, look for a future roommate, or simply see who’s in your incoming class. The earlier you reach out, the sooner you’ll have a supportive CSUSB network.

Nearpeer is a private, online platform designed to help CSUSB students connect with each other in a safe, secure environment. It uses your interests, academic focus, and personal background to match you with peers who share similar experiences—helping you form meaningful connections even before the first day of class.

How Do I Add Myself to a Group?

Once you’re logged in, navigate to the Groups or Explore section in Nearpeer. Search for topics that interest you—like your major, extracurricular clubs, or general interest groups—and click “Join” to become a member. You can join as many groups as you like!

Where Can I Chat with Other Students and Staff?

Inside each group, you’ll find a chat feature where you can post messages or ask questions. You can also view individual profiles and send direct messages to other students or staff. Keep an eye out for official CSUSB representatives who may be available for Q&A sessions.

Can I Send a Direct Message to Someone in the App?

Absolutely! Nearpeer allows you to send private, one-on-one messages to any student or staff member who is also on the platform. Simply click on their profile and select “Message” to start a conversation.
