Marilyn Monroy ’22, a first-generation Latina, CSUSB alumna and current graduate student, has transformed her own challenges into opportunities to uplift others. Inspired by her mother’s sacrifices and her role as the eldest sibling, Monroy overcame imposter syndrome and the demands of being a young mom to earn her sociology degree during the pandemic. At CSUSB, she found community in programs like the EOP Renaissance Scholars Program, which supported her success and inspired her to mentor peers. She later created a resource center for the Student Mentoring Program and now gives back through
