Program Director, Master of Arts in Applied Archaeology
Matthew Des Lauriers, professor of anthropology and director of the Master of Arts in Applied Archaeology Program in the Department of Anthropology, takes a holistic approach to research that involves experimental, field and qualitative research. When asked what he hopes his students will achieve in their careers, he replied, “For them to achieve and exceed their career goals. If a student can be encouraged to reach even a little further than they originally believed was possible for them, they are often surprised at what they can do and how far they can really go.”

One great excavation find includes the earliest unequivocal fishhooks from the Americas, dating to the end of the last Ice Age, over 10,000 years ago. Matthew is honored to have the support from CSUSB to be able to work with tribal and local people to better understand the history of indigenous land.
