CSUSB alumnus and Sacramento native Kelan Newt says he is defining his future by building a ladder that allows his community to climb and achieve their goals.

“My purpose is to inspire and give hope to my hometown community,” he said.

He chose to leave his hometown and attend CSUSB to “get away from home and learn how to become a man.” Kelan’s parents and his sister were his motivators while working toward his degree.

Kelan earned his bachelor’s degree in communication studies in spring 2019. His ultimate goal is to become a lawyer.

To future Coyotes, Kelan says, “Take advantage of every opportunity and don’t be afraid to fail.”
