Giving Fellows Their Flowers - College Corps Annual Closing Ceremony
College Corps Closing Ceremony
On May 2, the College Corps team celebrated the successful completion of the service term with our College Corps fellows during the annual Closing Ceremony. This year’s theme, “Giving Fellows Their Flowers,” honored the dedication, hard work, and meaningful contributions fellows made throughout the year to both College Corps and their community host partners.
The evening also featured our annual pre-event symposium, which gave guests an opportunity to explore the many projects and accomplishments our fellows completed throughout the year, from orientation to the conclusion of the program. The symposium highlighted fellow training projects, data collected from students’ service experiences, and personal testimonies that reflected the impact College Corps had on their journey at California State University, San Bernardino.
This year’s event showcased several inspiring student success stories, with fellows sharing powerful reflections on their resilience, personal growth, and experiences throughout the program. Common themes throughout the speeches included the importance of finding community, stepping outside of one’s comfort zone, and embracing new challenges.
To honor their dedication and service, all fellows received certificates of participation, a College Corps sash, and a commemorative pin recognizing their year of service. Graduating fellows were also specially recognized during the ceremony.
This year’s ceremony also featured several special recognitions as we honored Shazia Flores, Ebikaboere Siasia, and Mitzuko Tarrillo Oshiro for completing more than 1,800 hours of service with the California State University, San Bernardino College Corps program. These outstanding fellows received the Legacy of Service Award in recognition of their dedication and commitment to the program since its launch at CSUSB.
The event also celebrated the inaugural Fellow Yearbook Committee, established during this academic year, which successfully created the first-ever CSUSB College Corps yearbook. Overall, the evening served as a heartfelt celebration of our fellows’ achievements and a memorable send-off as the academic year comes to a close.
