Philanthropic Foundation

WELCOME

The CSUSB Philanthropic Foundation is a non-profit corporation that raises and manages gifts from individuals, foundations and corporations for the benefit CSUSB. The Foundation is comprised of business and civic leaders who care about CSUSB and who advance its mission by seeking and securing private support for all its programs. Overseen by the Board of Directors and staffed by a team of advancement professionals who are University employees, the foundation administers and records all gifts in accordance with donors' wishes.

Established in 2011, under California law, the Foundation is the catalyst and conduit through which gifts and endowment income flows. The Foundation is not an object of philanthropy itself, but a mechanism through which private support is raised and managed for the sole benefit of CSUSB. The philanthropy received by the Foundation is managed by, and all corporate powers of the Foundation are vested in its Board of Directors.

Philanthropic Mission

The CSUSB Philanthropic Foundation is a non-profit corporation chartered solely to support, benefit and advance the mission of California State University, San Bernardino.

The Foundation will actively pursue opportunities to promote the University, support fund-raising and build strong community relationships.

The Foundation will encourage gifts and financial support while creating learning opportunities for students, alumni and the community that complement the University's teaching, research and public service goals driven by intellectual interaction and creativity.

Why Give?

Founded in 1960 and opened for classes in 1965, CSUSB currently enrolls more than 17,500 students and employs more than 2,100 faculty and staff. Like many public institutions, CSUSB was fully supported by the state of California for decades. This ended in the early 1990s, when the university was expected to raise a portion of its own funding.

Currently, state funds cover about 60 percent of the cost of educating CSUSB students. About 30 percent more comes from student fees and other sources. In large part, the remaining funding comes from gifts from alumni and friends of CSUSB, private foundations and corporations.

Serving two of the fastest growing counties in the nation (San Bernardino and Riverside), CSUSB uses these additional dollars to help support scholarships, professorships and fellowships in all academic disciplines, college programs, research efforts, and the growing demand for facilities to support our students. Without this philanthropic support, many programs and academic opportunities would be reduced.

In light of our state's continuing fiscal challenges, the university depends upon its donors more than ever before to help educate tomorrow's leaders, teachers, business people, scientists and artists who will make a lasting difference in our community for years to come.
