
San Bernardino County Sheriff and CSUSB alumnus Shannon Dicus credits his college education for his success.

Diane Vines (nursing) was honored by the city of Palm Desert for her service to the community, David Marshall (English) was interviewed for a podcast on advising, and Kathryn Ervin (theatre arts) was the emcee for the topping out ceremony for the new Performing Arts Center.

Dorene C. Dominguez, chairwoman and CEO of Vanir Construction Management and the Vanir Group of Companies, Inc., will discuss “The Impact of Women Entrepreneurs” on Monday, Oct. 2, at 6 p.m. in the Santos Manuel Student Union Theater.

“The realization of the $200 million milestone is attributed to the invaluable support of CSUSB’s exceptional faculty and staff, dedicated friends and loyal alumni,” said CSUSB President Tomás D. Morales.

The Faculty Center for Excellence also begins the new academic year with an expanded new structure that unifies faculty support and professional development in one center.

Chair of the CSUSB music department, Lesley Leighton, an acclaimed conductor and singer, has left an indelible mark on the world of film and television soundtracks.

The city of Palm Desert has declared Aug. 24 as “Dr. Diane Vines Day” to honor the nursing instructor for her leadership and service to the community.

The university will reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 5. University Police will remain on duty on all days when the campus is closed.

The free program, presented on Zoom, is open to the public and will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6. Conversations on Race and Policing, which began after the murder of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, and its aftermath, enters its fourth year.

Ralph Figueroa, a graduate student in the rehabilitation counseling master’s program, has been named one of the top 32 student veterans in the nation by GI Jobs Magazine.

“We, as the nation’s largest public university, need to do the very best we can in advancing tribal relations, enhancing the education of Native American students, expanding the academic knowledge of indigenous communities, and preserving their cultural heritage,” said CSUSB President Tomás D. Morales.
