Cal State San Bernardino earned nine distinctions in U.S. News & World Report’s 2027 Best Colleges rankings, including top 10 placements for social mobility, public universities and value among regional universities in the West.

CSUSB tied for No. 3 in the Social Mobility-Regional Universities (West) category with CSU Stanislaus, and tied for No. 9 among Top Public Schools-Regional Universities (West) with Cal State Northridge. The university also ranked No. 7 in two categories: Best Value-Regional Universities (West) as the highest ranked CSU, and Best Value In-State-Regional Universities (West).

“CSUSB’s No. 3 social mobility ranking and its place among the West’s top 10 public regional universities reflect our commitment to academic excellence and student success,” said CSUSB President Terri Gómez. “These recognitions affirm the transformative value of a CSUSB education and our work to help students build brighter futures for themselves, their families and their communities.”

Overall, Cal State San Bernardino tied for No. 17 among regional universities in the West with Cal State Northridge and the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena.

The university also earned recognition for four undergraduate academic programs: Undergraduate Engineering-Non-Doctorate, Undergraduate Nursing, Undergraduate Computer Science, and Undergraduate Business Programs.

CSUSB’s social mobility recognition highlights the university’s work to advance and graduate students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. U.S. News has described institutions that perform well in social mobility as those that enroll and graduate large proportions of students who receive federal Pell Grants. Most Pell Grants are awarded to students whose adjusted gross family incomes are below $50,000.

U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges rankings are considered among the most influential and anticipated recognitions for colleges and universities offering a full range of undergraduate and master’s degree programs across the United States.

The rankings are based on factors that include graduation and retention rates, social mobility, graduation rate performance, undergraduate academic reputation, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources for students, average alumni giving and graduate indebtedness.
