The CSUSB Theatre Arts will present the Ellen Weisser Endowed Theatre Showcase production of “Little Shop of Horrors,” bringing the beloved dark musical comedy to the stage this spring.
Directed by Professor Kristi Papailler, the production will run April 24 through May 3 in the Barnes Theatre on the CSUSB campus.
Featuring a book and lyrics by Howard Ashman and music by Alan Menken, “Little Shop of Horrors” tells the story of Seymour, a timid flower shop assistant whose life changes after he discovers a mysterious talking plant he names Audrey II. As the plant brings him unexpected fame and fortune, it also reveals a sinister appetite – one that demands more than Seymour ever bargained for.
As Audrey II grows larger and more insatiable, chaos unfolds, drawing in everyone around Seymour in a fast-paced story filled with humor, horror and unexpected twists. The production blends elements of Motown, rock and roll, and doo-wop, creating a vibrant musical experience that has captivated audiences for decades.
The Ellen Weisser Endowed Theatre Showcase highlights the talent and creativity of CSUSB students and faculty, offering audiences the opportunity to experience high-quality theatrical productions in an intimate campus setting.
