“Sky Women,” a short play by Isabella Madrigal (Cahuilla and Turtle Mountain Chippewa descent), will be presented beginning at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at the Santos Manuel Student Union Theater at Cal State San Bernardino.

Presented by Luke Madrigal Indigenous Storytelling and the CSUSB Center for Indigenous Peoples Studies, the play is free and open to the public.

“Sky Women” is a multimedia presentation that explores Anishinaabe and Cahuilla water and migration stories passed down from mother to daughter. It imagines a future where Indigenous peoples — especially Indigenous women — are centered in global climate conversations, their ancestral teachings guiding the way forward.

Excerpts from the short film “Menil and Her Heart,” also written by Madrigal, will be screened. The film — which follows the story of two teenage sisters, one of whom goes missing without a trace from their home on the Cahuilla Reservation — is the recipient of the Yale University Young Native Playwright Award.

The program is co-sponsored by the Office of Government, Tribal, and Community Relations and the CSUSB Libraries.
