The Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art (RAFFMA) at Cal State San Bernardino, in collaboration with the Department of Art and Design, will present the 53rd Annual Student Art Exhibition from May 10-June 5. The awards ceremony will be held on Friday, May 9, at 6 p.m., followed by a reception at 7:15 p.m. at RAFFMA. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. Parking at CSUSB is $10 per vehicle.
The much-anticipated exhibition will showcase outstanding artwork created by the next generation of emerging artists from the Inland Empire. As the academic year comes to a close, CSUSB undergraduate students are invited to submit their work — a culmination of their creativity, talent and hard work over the past year. The exhibition reflects a collaborative effort between the Department of Art and Design and RAFFMA, underscoring a shared commitment to nurturing talented artists and designers.
Visitors can expect to experience a wide range of media, subjects, and styles that explore both traditional and contemporary art forms. This year’s juror is renowned artist and activist David Allen Burns, co-founder of the collective Fallen Fruit. Burns will curate a selection of exceptional and thought-provoking pieces that resonate with the community.
Burns, a Los Angeles native, earned a BFA from the California Institute of the Arts and an MFA from UC Irvine. Growing up in a diverse middle-class neighborhood in West Los Angeles, he developed a deep interest in storytelling, community engagement, and cultural exploration — elements that continue to influence his work. His art often reimagines familiar materials and spaces, challenging viewers to reconsider established systems of meaning through a conceptual lens.
The 53rd Annual Student Art Exhibition offers students a unique opportunity to exhibit their work in a museum setting, gaining valuable experience and sharing their creativity with the public. The community is invited to celebrate and support these emerging artists while experiencing firsthand the vibrant artistic energy thriving at Cal State San Bernardino.
