The Cal State San Bernardino Medical and Pre-Health Student Society will host the 5th annual Pre-Medical and Pre-Health Conference on Saturday, Jan. 14. Organized entirely by students, this conference has continued to grow over the years and this year will be no different.

Four keynote speakers for this year’s conference are:

  • Susan Partovi, focused on helping homeless populations in Skid Row, Los Angeles;
  • Pamela Alston, assistant professor of orofacial sciences at University of California, a member of Alameda County Women’s Hall of Fame and a UC Berkeley School of Public Health Hero;
  • Edward Barnes II, a veteran of operation Iraqi Freedom serving as a battalion surgeon and now an associate professor at Western University and Director of Hemodialysis center in Pomona; and
  • Margarita Loeza, a physician that specializes in family medicine and the chief medical director of Venice Family Clinics.

This year’s conference aims to appeal to both new and previous attendees. Both groups will benefit from hands-on workshops, meeting health professionals and learning from the various presenters.

Taking place in the Santos Manuel Student Union, the conference will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude at 5:30 p.m. The conference cost is $22 for CSUSB students and $27 for non-CSUSB students.

Tickets are available for purchase at the CSUSB MAPSS Pre-Medical and Pre-Health Conference website. Parking is complimentary in Lot D.

Tickets will give attendees access to all keynote presenters, workshops and recruitment fair. A continental breakfast and lunch will also be provided along with a conference bag and T-shirt.

The Pre-Medical and Pre-Health conference has gained popularity over the years. Students have traveled from across the nation to attend and, this year, University of California, San Francisco will be among the new presenters and recruiters present at the conference.

Organizers say the conference is a rare opportunity to network with physicians, dentist and other health care professionals who come from so many different backgrounds.
