Cal State San Bernardino President Tomás D. Morales, along with CSUSB administrators and faculty, hosted officials from Seoul Cyber University in Seoul, South Korea, who came to tour the campus as the two universities engage in ongoing dialogue to discuss common areas for cooperation.
Morales, who toured the South Korean university last November, greeted the group of educators, including SCU vice president and Professor Eunjoo Lee, who will become the university’s president next month.
“I was just unbelievably impressed with the quality of your faculty, the quality of your facilities, and the extraordinary leadership of the university,” Morales said. “I just see so many opportunities and potential for our faculty our staff and students to visit and to take courses in so many different areas in music, online instruction and others. There are so many opportunities that I believe we could develop.”
Lee said the university was interested in areas where SCU students could benefit, such as the CSUSB MBA program. She also talked about inviting CSUSB faculty to teach at SCU in the near future.
As officials from both universities looked on, the two leaders signed an agreement to further explore how the universities would together toward an exchange program.
The CSUSB officials included Shari G. McMahan, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs; Ron Fremont, vice president for University Advancement; Rong Chen, interim associate provost, Academic and International Programs; Tatiana Karmanova, dean of the College of Extended Learning; Anneli Adams, associate dean, College of Extended Learning; and Xiang “Samantha” Liu, interim faculty director, International Studies and Programs.
Along with Lee, the SCU officials included: Young-ai Chung, professor, School of Social Welfare; Lim Tae Soon, professor, chair, School of Business; Kim Hyun Jin, professor, chair, Department of Psychology and Counseling; and Chang Hwan Oh, chair, Department of Computer Engineering.
The group was also accompanied Alvaro Romo, secretary general of the International Association of University Presidents, who facilitated the initial meetings and visits of officials from the two universities.
The visitors also toured the campus, visiting the Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art, meeting with the deans and faculty from several of CSUSB’s colleges, and then dining with Morales in the evening.
Seoul Cyber University is a bachelor’s and master’s degree granting private university located in Seoul, South Korea, and has approximately 11,000 enrolled students in nine schools and 19 departments. SCU delivers most of its programs online and was selected as Korea's “Best Cyber University” by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology in 2007.
