As part of the effort to create a more inclusive campus culture at Cal State San Bernardino, the university’s Office of Student Engagement will host 'I Just Want to BE-Long,” a symposium featuring Terrell Strayhorn, on Tuesday, Feb. 14.

The event will run from noon to 2 p.m. at the Santos Manuel Student Union Events Center. Lunch will be provided for attendees. Online registration deadline is Friday, Feb. 10, and may be done online at the “I Just Want to Belong Symposium web page on OrgSync.

This symposium will focus on educating students and the campus community on their respective roles in creating an inclusive campus culture where all students can learn free from bias, discrimination, and micro/macro aggression.

After the keynote lecture, attendees will participate in small dialogue circles led by diversity trainers and campus administrators to discuss the lecture topics and real life applications to the CSUSB community.

The target audiences for the symposium is student employees, student leaders, and all CSUSB students, faculty, and staff:

Faculty — This symposium will provide your students the skills to successfully participate in inclusive classroom dialogues. We ask you to please encourage your classes and students to attend.

Student Employers — This symposium will provide your student assistants with techniques to create a welcoming environment for students and guests that visit your office. The Division of Student Affairs highly encourages all departments to send and compensate their student employees as this is a great learning and professional development opportunity.

Campus Departments — This symposium will provide student leaders the skills necessary to create an inclusive campus culture. OSE asks that you encourage the student leaders in your respective areas to attend.

Strayhorn, the featured speaker, is a professor of higher education and director for the Center for Higher Education Enterprise at The Ohio State University.
