The Academy Award-nominated film “Theeb” and its co-producer Laith Majali will be featured at a program presented by Cal State San Bernardino’s Center for Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies, the Mediterranean Studies Academy and Department of Communication Studies.
The free screening, which is open to the public, will take place Monday, May 22, at 6 p.m. at the university’s College of Education, room CE-105. Parking at the university is $6.
Following the film will be a question-and-answer session with Majali.
Initially released in 2015, “Theeb” is set in 1916 and follows a young Bedouin boy named Theeb who lives in the Wadi Rum desert, a remote part of the Ottoman Empire. Theeb experiences a greatly hastened coming-of-age as he embarks on a perilous desert journey to guide a British officer to his secret destination.
In addition to its 2016 Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film, “Theeb” is the recipient of 10 awards, including a 2016 BAFTA for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer for its director and writer Naji Abu Nowar.
