Cal State San Bernardino was one of five donors honored recently for their contributions of at least $10,000 to the San Bernardino Police Foundation.

CSUSB, along with the other honorees — Burlington Northern Santa Fe Rail, the Hillwood Corp., Loma Linda University Health and Stater Brothers — were recognized at the last baseball game of the season at the San Manuel Stadium in San Bernardino.

The donors’ contributions were used to buy equipment, such as high-powered rifles and high impact bulletproof vests, for police officers. The specialized vests are designed to protect the officers against high-power, large caliber-type weapons, similar to the ones used during the Dec. 2, 2015, attack at the Inland Regional Center.

The San Bernardino Police Foundation is not affiliated with the city of San Bernardino. Its mission, according to its website, “is to enhance public safety in San Bernardino through support of the San Bernardino Police Department by supporting and funding safety, technology, crime fighting, and community programs.”
