CSUSB professor comments in article about threats made against Cal State Northridge professorLos Angeles Daily News/Southern California News Group/Bay Area News GroupMarch 15, 2018

Brian Levin, a criminal justice professor at Cal State San Bernardino and director of the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism, was interviewed for an article about threats made against a Cal State Northridge political science professor stemming from questions on a test referring to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

Levin said regardless of any alleged bias in the exam, he believes the “shoot her in the face” comment warrants further investigation, including from the FBI. Such a comment could be considered incitement more than a criminal threat, he said. Levin also noted the statement may be difficult to prosecute.

After asking students to label a Trump speech as “anti-Mexican,” “anti-Muslim,” “anti-woman,” or “all of the above” on an exam, a veteran Cal State Northridge professor says she fears for her safety and accuses the university of doing little to respond to her concerns about threatening online posts that surfaced when a few of her test questions became public.

Karin Stanford, a political scientist who teaches through CSUN’s Africana Studies department, says she stopped teaching in January following certain online comments – including “somebody shoot her in the face” – and disturbing emails directed at her in the wake of the controversy.

CSUSB education professor urges protection of Wildwood Canyon State Park, a ‘crown jewel’Yucaipa/Calimesa News MirrorMarch 16, 2018

Enrique G. Murillo, Jr., a professor of education at CSUSB, wrote in an op-ed against a plan to install a radio tower in Wildwood Canyon State Park in Yucaipa, and urged community residents opposed to the plan to attend a San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors March 20 meeting where the project is scheduled to be discussed.

“As an adult I now know how essential these open spaces are, and feel an intrinsic need to protect and preserve places like Wildwood Canyon —  especially as a large radio tower project currently threatens its wondrous landscape,” Murillo wrote.

“This is why it pains me to know that the park is still under attack by Lazer Broadcasting Inc., a non-local company aiming to build a four-story radio tower directly adjacent to Wildwood Canyon. After years of fighting against the San Bernardino County community, Lazer has continued to try to push their development plans forward, which would leave the park’s vistas forever damaged.

“This cannot and should not happen. Moving forward with this project will ruin the ‘WOW!’ factor for park visitors — that jaw-dropping moment, where one is overwhelmed by the beauty of the untouched landscape around them.”
