The Women’s Resource Center at Cal State San Bernardino will present “The Vagina Monologues” on Friday, March 11, and Saturday, March 12. Proceeds will benefit the Option House Inc., in San Bernardino, an organization that helps victims of domestic violence.

The theater presentations will be held in the Santos Manuel Student Union Theater from 8-10 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the WRC and are $5 with any student ID or $10 without. Content is for mature audiences only; no under 18 will be allowed. Parking is a daily rate of $6.

“I think The Vagina Monologues is great and important for women,” said Irene Tobias, WRC program assistant and director of the play. “Many young women on campus didn't know that this existed. It's important because we can learn from each other and feel comfortable talking about issues involving our vaginas. I think they are an eye-opener for everyone.”

Based on Eve Ensler’s award-winning stage show, The Vagina Monologues is an episodic play based on real testimonies by women and their vaginal experiences. The play will be performed by CSUSB students who auditioned and were selected for the readings. The selection of readings vary from funny to painful experiences.

The Vagina Monologues gives women the space to experience empowerment through a very powerful play,” said Kel McCoy, performer and WRC student assistant. “Though it was first performed in 1994, its content is still relevant today. The Women's Resource Center hopes that the play can inspire women to love their vaginas and not be ashamed!”

The annual event proceeds will help fund the Option House Inc., a local organization that provides a sanctuary for hurting families. Since 1977, Option House has provided a 60-day shelter for safety and counseling. Over the past 32 years, 200-300 community women and children annually have relied on the shelter for food and clothing, job skills training, court advocacy, and parenting classes.
