The 6th annual Shamrock 5K walk/run, hosted by the Zeta Zeta chapter of Kappa Delta sorority at Cal State San Bernardino to benefit programs that help prevent child abuse, will be held on Saturday, March 5.

Registration is $30 for CSUSB students and faculty, $35 for the general public, $40 for late registration, and $140 for a five-member team. To register, visit the online form.

The annual event proceeds will help fund the prevention of child abuse through ChildHelp Merv Griffin Village in Beaumont and Child Abuse America. To donate to the cause visit the Go Fund me account online.

Since adopting child abuse prevention as a national philanthropy in 1983, Kappa Delta has raised more than $15 million nationally for the cause. Last year, the Zeta Zeta chapter had more than 300 participants and raised more $27,000 from the 2015 Shamrock 5K.

Since 1978, the ChildHelp Merv Griffin Village, located in Beaumont, has provided 24-hour-a-day treatment of abused, neglected, and at-risk children of California. Committed to creating a genuine community environment, the village houses as many as 84 children, ranging in age from 6 to 15 years of age.

The children are referred by various judicial authorities and child welfare offices that rely on Childhelp’s team of mental health professionals, who assess each child arriving at the facility and develop an individualized treatment plan. The treatment plan incorporates activities and services to allow the children the opportunity to grow, heal and develop.

Founded in 1972, Prevent Child Abuse America has provided services to improve child well-being in all 50 states, and develops programs that help to prevent all types of abuse and neglect.

Nationally, there are approximately 681,000 confirmed cases of child abuse and neglect. Due to the success of the signature home visiting program, Healthy Families America, evidence based home-visiting strategies proven to improve child well-being are able to reach more than 85,000 families ever year.
