The Military Times has ranked Cal State San Bernardino as the top four-year college in California and among the top 20 colleges in the nation for military veterans.

In the magazine’s Best for Vets: College 2017, CSUSB was ranked 18th in the nation, which was the highest listing for a college in California. San Diego State University was the next highest ranked California college listed at 25. The University of Southern Florida was listed as the top ranked college in the nation.

The ranking marks the third consecutive year that CSUSB has been listed as California’s top college for military veterans.

In the current school year, CSUSB has 417 students who are veterans.

Cal State San Bernardino’s student military veterans are served by the university’ Veterans Success Center, which was created in 2012.  The center offers dynamic programs that are comprehensive in scope and sensitive to the unique needs of service members to include new student veterans' orientation, monthly seminar series, a weekly mental health support group, STEM tutoring, and advocacy and referral services.

To be considered for the rankings, colleges had to fill out an exhaustively detailed, roughly 150-question survey. The institutions were evaluated institutions based on their survey responses as well as on data collected by three different federal agencies.

The rankings included categories on universities with a veteran’s center, staff support, accreditation, student-faculty ratio, money per student on instruction, retention rates, graduation rates and default rates.
