The Palm Desert Campus of Cal State San Bernardino is joining Cinema Culturas to host “Festival en los Campos” or “Festival in the Fields,” a film festival that will run from Oct. 25 to 27 in Palm Desert and surrounding cities. On Saturday, Oct. 27, the PDC will host an educational roundtable and screening of “El Jeremías,” a touching comedy revolving around a talented boy. The film was Mexico’s entry for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. “El Jeremías” is in Spanish with English subtitles and will show at noon in the campus’ Indian Wells Theater. Admission is free and advanced reservations are not required. Parking is $6 per vehicle. At 2 p.m., an educational roundtable will be held during which CSUSB students, parents and educators will engage the audience (local community) in a discussion about college pathways and the preparation that leads to a college degree. The audience will hear about the obstacles that they might encounter and the resources they can seek. The roundtable will include a Q& A session where audience members can engage in conversation. Finally, there will be a reception from 3:30-4:30 p.m. that will allow for the discussion to continue in smaller groups, and it will include a resource section where various CSUSB programs will share information to prepare high school students for college pathways and community college students to transfer pathways. For more information about the Festival in the Fields film festival, including all film screening sites, visit the Festival in the Fields 2018 website. The CSUSB Palm Desert Campus is located at 37500 Cook St. The CSUSB Palm Desert Campus offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees, a doctorate in educational leadership, and teacher credentials and certificates.
