Alfredo Alva, 61, who retired from Cal State San Bernardino’s Facilities Management in March of this year, passed away on May 5. Alva worked in Custodial Services and Grounds for nearly 30 years. He joined CSUSB in March 1990 and retired in March 2019. He spent most of that time working outdoors servicing the grounds near the Biological Sciences and Chemistry Sciences buildings. Most recently, he served as custodian of the Physical Education building. He was a graduate of La Habra High School in Orange County. He is survived by his wife, Rose Alva, and his daughter, Austie Alva. A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, 796 48th St., in San Bernardino. Later that day, a memorial reception will be from noon to 3 p.m. at Cal State San Bernardino’s Santos Manuel Student Union Events Center.
