David C. Hansen, the superintendent of Riverside Unified School District (RUSD) and a Cal State San Bernardino alumnus, was recently named the 2019 Superintendent of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators. Hansen, MA ’93 educational administration, has led RUSD since 2014 when he became the district’s 11th superintendent. The ACSA's Awards Committee reviewed 265 nominations in order to select its 2019 honorees. The criteria looked for a superintendent who promotes the success of all students through a number of factors including: demonstrated commitment to quality education, vision for learning, advocacy for and development of school culture, employment of creative responses when working with diverse community interests, and much more.Under Hansen’s leadership, RUSD provides engaging, innovative and equitable learning experiences for all students . For the past 28 years, he has educated and led thousands of staff and students throughout the region. The Riverside Unified School District is the 15th largest school district in California, serving nearly 42,000 students in 50 schools in Riverside. The district serves a large portion of the Riverside as well as the unincorporated areas of Highgrove and Woodcrest.
