CSUSB’s Dr. Kate Liszka, Benson and Pamela Harer Fellow in Egyptology and Professor of History, and Bryan Kraemer, a research Egyptologist and Educator at the Robert and Francis Fullerton Museum of Art at CSUSB were invited for a summer 2026 speaking tour of several Australian universities and museums.

Dr. Liszka and Kraemer presented their ongoing work related to the Wadi el-Hudi Expedition and the scholarship and educational opportunities that have come from that work. They were the 2026 Gale Fellows for the Australian Centre for Egyptology, which was headed by Macquarie University in Sydney. They also presented lectures in Perth at the Western Australia Museum and several high schools. They went on to Monash University in Melbourne and spoke for the Egyptology Society of Victoria. 

Kraemer noted of the trip, “This was an incredible opportunity to meet nice colleagues and see an amazing part of the world. We shared several solutions for issues with archaeology and museum practice.” Professor Liszka remarked, “I feel so honored that we were selected to be the Gale Egyptology Fellows this year. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn about Australia, meet so many people interested in Ancient Egypt, and to share our archaeological work.”

In addition to prestigious universities and Egyptology societies, Liszka and Kraemer were also much in demand and hugely popular with students at several middle and high schools. They introduced the fundamentals of Egyptology and archaeology, and also thrilled students with their expert knowledge of hieroglyphs and how to read them. They established strong connections between CSUSB and these Australian counterparts, and have already been invited back to reprise some of their summer events virtually in the spring of 2027!
