Outbound Mail

Mail Services meters all routine mail at the U.S. Post Office first-class rate for postcards, regular business envelopes, or large envelopes.  There are size limits on these items that should be adhered to for regular processing.  They are:

  • Minimum height and length - 3-1/2" x 5"
  • Maximum height and length 6-1/8" x 11-1/2"
  • Minimum thickness - 0.009"
  • Maximum thickness - 1/4"  

Items larger than routine mail will be evaluated by Mail Services personnel to determine the best method for shipping.  This includes packages that are shipped with a domestic address or international address.  Common carriers used include U.S. Postal Service, United Parcel Service (UPS), or Federal Express (FEDEX).  Fedex and UPS carriers do not deliver to post office boxes.  Mail and packages addressed to a post office box will be sent through the U.S. Postal Service.

 

When sending outgoing mail and packages, department must use a complete return address, including their department name, on all outgoing mail to be metered.  Mail Services is not permitted to meter mail that does not have a CSUSB return address.

 

All outgoing mail and packages must have a zip code and should be addressed as follows:

Recipient Name  (2nd line may be Recipient Company)

Recipient Address  (include suite or apt numbers)

Recipient City, State, Zip Code

 

International mail and packages must have the destination address in English.  The destination country will be the last line of the address and be written in all Caps as follows:

Recipient Name  (2nd line may be Recipient Company)

Recipient Address  (include suite or apt numbers)

Recipient City, Province, Zip Code

Recipient Country   (example INDIA)
