Power to the San Bernardino campus has been restored as of 9:55 a.m. Normal campus operations will resume Friday, July 26th. Essential staff with questions on whether to report should contact their appropriate administrator. Facilities Management will be working to check all building systems including HVAC, elevators and fire alarms. If power has not been restored in your work area when you return, please report that to Facilities Planning and Management at (909) 537-5175. The Palm Desert Campus remains open and operational.

PURPOSE

Exceptionally strong Santa Ana winds through the Cajon Pass and surrounding foothills often present a potential danger to life and property at the University.

The Risk Manager shall monitor wind and weather reports whenever such conditions appear to impact the University population.  The Risk Manager will make the notification to the campus community regarding wind conditions.  

In accordance with National Weather Service policies, the following stages of sustained wind conditions are identified, and subsequent actions are taken.

Wind Advisory

When wind conditions are currently or predicted to be sustained at 25mph and/or frequent gusts of at least 45mph, the campus will send an advisory message to campus indicating current conditions.

Wind Warning

When wind conditions are currently or predicted to be sustained winds at 40mph and/or frequent gusts of at least 58mph, the campus will send an advisory message to campus indicting current conditions. The President or his designee may consider a campus closure.
