Revolving

“Revolving” is our cohort’s first-ever virtual art exhibition. While our four individual art styles are vastly different, we united around the theme of cycles and decided to showcase pieces focused on life, death, and rebirth. We also wanted to lean into the 360-degree nature of the exhibition and highlight works that will present cleanly through digital means. We hope to connect with our wide-reaching digital audience by sharing online representations of our works, allowing them to get a closer look at the art produced during CSUSB’s MFA program.

My paintings are abstract compositions dedicated to the love of light and color, accented with simple shapes dancing in space. I render minimalist interactions between reflective planes and portals into the void. I am interested in creating illusions with paint and perspective to give the impression of illumination and dimension. My work warps its environment with experiential interventions and invites viewers to lose themselves in the altered space.

Life After Death (Series) 2020

Mixed Media on Canvas

16” x 20”

Life After Death is an ongoing series of mixed media paintings that explores several cultures and traditions around the world surrounding the concept of mortality. Each depiction utilizes elements from the culture being represented along with the imagery of flowers to create a personification of death. These works borrow elements from the traditional paintings as depicted in memento mori artwork, while alluding to post-mortem photography through the inclusion of an oval shaped canvas.
