Department/program information: The Music, Sound, and Technology (MST) area at Cal State San Bernardino combines creative practice with hands-on use of technology to prepare students for the evolving fields of audio engineering and immersive media. Students gain experience in audio production, recording, and mixing, alongside coding (e.g., Max/Pd, Arduino, MetaSounds), sound design, and performance with electronics. Project-based courses emphasize collaboration and real-world workflows for live performance, installations, and media scoring, with opportunities to explore spatial and immersive audio. The department integrates industry-standard software with open-source tools and fosters cross-disciplinary collaboration across campus. These practices provide students with diverse creative opportunities, support their individual learning styles, and prepare them for careers in the fast-developing fields of music technology and immersive media.
