What inspired you to join CSUSB, and how has your journey here evolved over time?
I have come a long way to get to CSUSB. After I graduated from Grand Terrace High School I didn't go to college right away and took a gap year before I continued on my way to Riverside City College where I majored in Human Resources. I didn't understand what I wanted to do so I chose HR but as I took some electives I changed my major to Studio Arts. I finished my 2 years and I got my Associates in Studio Arts. I transferred to Cal State Fullerton during the time COVID was active and did my one semester online. Although I enjoyed taking art classes I felt like the program didn't suit me and I ended up dropping out. Yet I didn't give up and found my passion in digital art and I thought to myself what could I do to make the most out of digital art. I did some research and found out all about Graphic Design. So I made the most affordable decision to go back to Riverside City College and start my journey in Graphic Design. So as I took those design classes I started to enjoy learning about graphic design and the many options I could do with it. After that I got my certificates in both Graphic and Web Design. I wanted to pursue my degree in higher education , so my design professor at Riverside City College told me all about CSUSB and their amazing design program. So in 2024 I transferred to CSUSB excited to join their design studies program. Right now I'm currently majoring in Design Studies with a concentration in Interface Design still trying to finish my BFA.
What do you enjoy most about working at CSUSB, and how has the campus community influenced your experience?
I started working on campus my second semester as a Pathways Ambassador in the program Pathways to Success. I enjoyed working with students and helped them find resources to guide them on their journeys to transfer or graduate. Although it was amazing working with Pathways, I wanted to get more involved because the job was mostly hybrid working from home or volunteering to participate in upcoming events.. I didn't get the sense of working hands on. So I decided to find a second job around campus and soon enough I got a job working as Coyote Ambassador for Outreach & Student recruitment. This job has made me rethink about becoming involved on campus because it has opened my eyes to new opportunities and experiences. Touring prospective students has set my goals for what it's like to advertise on a whole new level. Whether it's relating to a transfer student or helping a high school senior get comfortable with first time college experience, it is worth it to see clients have an enjoyable touring experience. This is what my job is all about and I enjoy putting on a happy face for my students.
Why do you think others should consider joining the pack at CSUSB for employment?
I think more students should be more involved on their campus because it gives them a chance to connect with other students and faculty. It broadens their perspective on networking and making small connections. It also gives them a chance to try out new experiences for themselves and future careers. So when they do go out and get a job in their field they’ll have the opportunity to grow their skills so they can be the best person they can be for that job or position.
