Why I Love Working At CSUSB

My inspiration to apply to Cal State University, San Bernardino came after visiting the campus twice last year. First, I attended a professional development opportunity for high school counselors, and later I brought our juniors and seniors on a campus tour. The culture and community I experienced at CSUSB felt unlike any other campus I had visited. The passion of the students and staff immediately captured my attention, and I knew this was a place I wanted to call my new home. I told myself then that I would be working here the following year.
My career in education began in 2010 as a pre-kindergarten teacher, a role I truly enjoyed. Over the past 14–15 years, I have continued to grow—earning my Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with a minor in Family and Human Development, followed by my Master of Education in School Counseling. This opened the door for me to work as a school counselor for 3.5 years. When my charter school closed, it became the perfect opportunity to pursue my growing interest in higher education, which led me to CSUSB.
Although I am still in the early stages of my journey here—just beginning my second month of employment—I have already joined a search committee and enrolled in the Student Affairs Academy program. These opportunities are helping me grow within the university community and are laying the foundation for my future career path.

What I enjoy most about working at CSUSB is the strong sense of community among both staff and students. From my very first day, I felt welcomed and supported, which set me up for success in my role as a disability specialist. I quickly connected with colleagues across the Student Affairs division, and their guidance has been invaluable during my onboarding.
The campus community has inspired me to be part of something extraordinary. I’ve learned that many CSUSB alumni return here to work, which speaks volumes about the pride and connection this campus fosters. Experiencing that has motivated me to further my own education—I plan to apply to the Doctorate in Educational Leadership program so that I too can one day join the alumni community.

People should join the pack at CSUSB because of the welcoming, family-like environment and the abundance of opportunities for growth. In just a short time, I have met individuals who have worked here for more than 20 years, which is a true testament to the positive and supportive culture of this campus.
CSUSB is not only a place of work but a community where you can build meaningful relationships, develop professionally, and make a real impact on students’ lives. I am proud to be part of this institution, and I look forward to contributing to its mission while helping prepare the next generation of students for success.
