Admissions for International Students

The Center for International Studies and Programs (CISP) is a valuable resource to our students from other countries. They are committed to providing you with the best educational experience.

How to Apply to Cal State San Bernardino

Step 1

You may submit an application online (highly recommended) at CalState.edu/apply, or download a printable application. Use your last/family name, first name and date of birth as it will appear on your passport. You must also include a valid e-mail address in your application for future communication from CSUSB International Admissions. There is a non-refundable, non-transferable application fee of $70. Please note that your application materials will remain active for one year from the term it is processed. If you have not been admitted within that term, you will be required to submit a new application.

Step 2

You may mail any additional documents (application fee, official transcripts, residency information, statement of financial responsibility, TOEFL scores, etc.) to:

International applicants must submit a statement of financial responsibility to be considered for admission to the university. International students are also required to submit evidence of adequate medical/hospital insurance to the international student advisor.

Step 3

Within approximately two weeks, you will receive notice by mail to let you know that we have received your application. This is your acknowledgment letter. The letter will contain your Coyote ID number, activation code, and CSUSB e-mail account information. Please contact us if you do not receive this letter after two weeks from the submission of your application.

Step 4

Activate your MyCoyote account. Applicants can view their status online at MyCoyote and determine if there are any other documents to turn in to International Admissions.

The CSU uses separate requirements and application filing dates as guidelines for admission to "international students."

An applicant whose education has been in a language other than English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL ). This test is administered in most foreign countries and official test scores must be received by the CSUSB before admission to the university can be granted. Visit the ETS TOEFL site for more information about TOEFL, including testing times and locations.

For Short-Term Applicants

The host faculty must verify an applicant's English language proficiency through a recognized English test, by signed documentation from an academic institution or English language school, or through a letter from the host university’s English professor, evaluating the student’s English ability.
