Graduation and Commencement

Apply for Graduation

As you plan to graduate, you must submit a graduation check to the Office of the Registrar, located in UH-171, prior to the end of the term of your expected graduation. However, to avoid late fees, the grad check should be filed by the established deadlines.

Grad Check Deadlines
Graduation Term Filing Date
Summer Quarter January
Fall Quarter February
Winter Quarter May
Spring Quarter November

What does a Graduation Check do?

A graduation check is a degree check sent to you by the Office of the Registrar (after you applied for graduation) that outlines all of your degree requirements (missing or completed).

First File

The fee for filing a grad check is $75 ($25 for each additional major/option requested). Grad checks filed after the deadline are charged an additional $20 late fee for each major/option. This fee not only covers your graduation check, but it also covers the cost to participate in the commencement ceremony. To make your online payment, visit Student Financial Services - Payment Options web page.  Due to COVID restrictions on campus payments are not currently available.

Students who do not complete the requirements in the term for which the grad check was filed, must re-file and pay a $20 fee for an updated and revised grad check.  If the grad check is filed after the deadline, an additional $20 late fee will be charged.

There are two commencement ceremonies held annually at CSUSB, Fall Commencement is held in December and Spring Commencement is held in June. Students are eligible to participate in the Spring Commencement ceremony if they have a grad check on file for Winter, Spring or Summer. Students are eligible to participate in the Fall Commencement Ceremony if they have a graduation check on file for Fall or Winter.

For further information on commencement, please contact the Commencement Office at (909) 537-7360.
