For all ranks, the average faculty salary for women appears to be steadily increasing from 2014 to 2019 when observing all ranks. This was not the case for males; there was no distinguishable pattern, although the average salary for males was higher in 2019 than it was in 2014. In 2018-2019 male faculty members made an average of 118.65 thousand dollars while their female counterparts earned on average 109.72 thousand dollars. When average salary is disaggregated to compare male v. female Full Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors and Lecturers, the gender gap increases for full professors ($2.88 difference in 2018-2019 to $4.18 difference in 2019-2020), Assistant Professors (from $0.4 difference in 2018-2019 to $3.8 difference in 2019-2020), and Associate Professors (from -$1.75 difference in 2018-2019 to $4.5 difference in 2019-2020). Interestingly, women who are Instructors/Lecturers on average earn more than males who hold those same positions; in fact, women in this position earn $78.33 thousand on average while males earn $77.75 thousand on average. This difference is marginal when compared to the average wage gap across all ranks. When reviewing these data, keep in mind the extremely small number of observations. Also keep in mind that salaries in Public Administration are lower than in the other departments of the college. Data and percentages should be viewed as a benchmark for progress.
