On Campus Student Employment

State Side

Each year a limited number of part-time, on-campus positions are made available for eligible California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) students. Such employment provides a means of earning money and provides students with an opportunity to develop new skills and positive work habits which will ensure professional success. Students are expected to consistently execute job responsibilities in a satisfactory manner. Student Assistants are compensated, at minimum, $16.00 per hour. Schedules are 20 hours a week or less and there is no overtime or holiday work permitted. 

State Side Student Assistants typically fall under the following Job Codes:

  1. 1870 (Student Assistant)
  2. 1874 (Bridge Student Assistant)
  3. 1868 (Nonresident Alien/International)

Eligibility Requirements:
Minimum 2.0 GPA
Half-time Enrollment (Full-time Enrollment required for 1868 students)

Federal Work Study

Federal Work Study is a federally funded program that provides job opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students who are eligible to participate in need based financial aid programs. Work-Study student workers will be placed in various departments on and off campus to help offset a portion of their educational expenses. Work-Study at CSUSB provides opportunities for students to secure academic or career-related jobs and develop job skills.

FWS students typically fall under the following Job Codes:

  1. 1871 (FWS On Campus)
  2. 1872 (FWS Off Campus)
  3. 1875 (FWS Bridge On Campus) 
  4. 1876 (FWS Bridge Off Campus)

Eligibility Requirements:
Completed FAFSA for applicable academic year
Answered "YES" to "Are you interested in being considered for work-study?" 
Maintain satisfactory academic progress
Half-time Enrollment
Demonstrate a financial need determined by Federal Guidelines

Work Study participants are required to complete a tutorial prior to beginning the hiring process.

LAEP

LAEP (Learning Aligned Employment Program) students typically fall under the following Job Codes:

  1. 1880 (LAEP On Campus)
  2. 1881 (LAEP Off Campus)
  3. 1882 (LAEP Bridge On Campus)
  4. 1883 (LAEP Bridge Off Campus)

LAEP students must be California residents.

Instructional Student Assistant

Participants provide tutoring to children K-6th grade in reading, K-9th grade in math, and family literacy. ISA's will be placed in local school districts or tutorial agencies. Students who are hired as Instructional Student Assistants (ISA), Graduate Assistants (GA), or Teaching Associates (TA) assist a professor with his/her class load through miscellaneous tasks such as conducting research, teaching, facilitating group discussions, grading papers, or tutoring.

ISA students must be receiving Federal Work Study through their FAFSA award and must be approved for hire by the Department (On Campus), or by the School or District (Off Campus).

Eligibility Requirements:
Minimum 2.5 GPA
Half-time Enrollment
Ability to pass a criminal background check
Enroll and pass course ESEC 5450 (tutor training)

ISA (Instructional Student Assistant) students typically fall under the following Job Codes:

  1. 1151 (ISA FWS On Campus)
  2. 1153 (ISA FWS Off Campus)
