Power to the San Bernardino campus has been restored as of 9:55 a.m. Normal campus operations will resume Friday, July 26th. Essential staff with questions on whether to report should contact their appropriate administrator. Facilities Management will be working to check all building systems including HVAC, elevators and fire alarms. If power has not been restored in your work area when you return, please report that to Facilities Planning and Management at (909) 537-5175. The Palm Desert Campus remains open and operational.

Basic Skills Requirement (BSR)

Due to the passage of Trailer Bill 153, candidates for the teacher education programs can now complete the Basic Skills Review (BSR) with a bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.

Subject Matter Competency Requirement (SMC)

Subject matter proficiency may be demonstrated through one of the following options:

1) Completion of a subject matter program approved by the commission.

2) Passage of a subject matter examination (the California Subject Examination for Teachers or CSET).

3) Successful completion of coursework at one or more regionally accredited institutions of higher education that addresses each of the domains of the subject matter requirements adopted by the commission in the content area of the credential pursuant to Section 44282, as verified by a Commission-approved program of professional preparation. 4) Successful completion of a baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education in a major in one of the subject areas in which the commission credentials candidates. See PSA 23-04Open PDF or read the right column for details. 

5) Through a combination of the methods described in clauses (1), (2), and (3) in whole or in part, has met or exceeded each of the domains of the subject matter requirements adopted by the commission in the content area of the credential pursuant to Section 44282 for multiple and single subject credentials, or pursuant to Section 44265 for education specialist credentials.

U.S Constitution
  • U.S. Constitution Examination is offered by CSUSB College of Extended and Global Education
  • U.S. Constitution Courses at CSUSB (HIST 1460/1460H or HIST 2000 or HIST 5400 or PSCI 2030/2030H or PSCI 4100 or PSCI 4110)
  • Please Note: Students who obtained their bachelor's degree at a CSU, have met their requirement
CPR
  • CPR Sites (American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Health Association) Due to COVID-19, we are temporarily accepting verification of online CPR training.
  • Please be sure the training you receive includes infant, child and adult. 
  • The agency should provide you with a card/certificate that includes their information, your full name, the specific training you received, as well as the issuance and expiration dates.

 

Additional Information

Students who fail to successfully complete any program course with a 'B-' or better will be denied continuation in the program. An appeal process is available. Consult the Teacher Education Office for details.

Upon completing all requirements for the single subject program, the candidate will be awarded a certificate of completion from California State University, San Bernardino and may apply for a preliminary credential.

Within two years candidates must complete an Induction Program that is offered by the school district in which they secure employment. Preliminary credential students may obtain a professional clear credential by meeting the Induction Program of the school district.
