Dr. Tiffany Bitting is the Director of the Career Center at the San Bernardino and Palm Desert campuses. She joined the Coyote family in July and brings with her a wealth of experience.

Dr. Bitting has worked in higher education since 2001 in a variety of roles, starting off as a Summer Bridge peer advisor and mentor in the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at California State University, Long Beach. As an EOP and first-generation student, the role gave her the opportunity to give back to others and exposed her to the field of Student Affairs.

She has worked in higher education career services for nearly nine years. Dr. Bitting got her start in career services as a graduate intern at Cal State Fullerton. Over the years, Dr. Bitting has worked in both Academic and Student Affairs at public and private institutions, including National University, University of Houston, and in the California State University system.

As a director, Dr. Bitting is a relationship builder with her team, the campus community, alumni, and employers. By making this a priority, she is better able to meet the unique needs for each group. Also, professional development for her team is important. This includes ensuring the Career Center stays ahead of trends, follows the latest techniques, and has the tools and resources needed to best serve students and alumni.

The Career Center empowers students and recent alumni to achieve their personal and professional goals through exploration, programming, and experiential learning opportunities. Students can schedule an appointment to get career preparation services, such as mock interviews and assistance with their resumes and cover letters with not just career counselors but also professionals in their desired fields. In addition, the center provides career advising, networking opportunities, graduation school prep, and job and internship exploration.

“For me, the biggest thing is understanding our students’ stories and journeys, and then how can we meet them where they are and support them,” said Dr. Bitting. “Our job is also to help them explore the possibilities and maybe things they haven't even considered before.”

This year, Dr. Bitting looks forward to establishing strong campus partnerships and informing students about the many ways the Career Center can help them achieve their career goals. The center will also be expanding its experiential learning opportunities for students by providing more job shadowing, meet and greet, and company tour opportunities.

Students can visit the Career Center website to schedule an appointment with a career advisor. The Career Center has a liaison for the Palm Desert campus and each college at CSUSB. The center will also be launching its ambassador program this year, providing students the option to meet with peer advisors.
