How do I participate in the Coyote Day One Textbook Access pilot program?
Every CSUSB undergraduate student except those enrolled through the College of Extended and Global Education is automatically enrolled in and charged for the Coyote Day One Textbook Access pilot program for Fall 2024.
How much does the Coyote Day One program cost?
The Coyote Day One Textbook Access program costs $21.50 per unit up to a maximum of $322.50 for 15 units or above.
How will I be charged? Does my financial aid apply?
The Coyote Day One Textbook Access program fee will appear on your CSUSB account charges along with your other fees. Your financial aid applies to the Coyote Day One program if available.
Can I choose not to participate in Coyote Day One?
Yes, any student can opt out of Coyote Day One between August 1, 2024 and the Fall 2024 census date, Monday September 23, 2024. Please see our Opting Out of Coyote Day One web page.
How do I get a refund if I opt out?
Follett, the company which administers CDOTA, will let CSUSB know that you have opted out and CSUSB Student Financial Services will credit the Coyote Day One fee to your CSUSB account.
How should I decide whether it pays for me to participate in Coyote Day One?
You can use the Deciding on Coyote Day One Textbook Access worksheet on the Opting Out of Coyote Day One web page to calculate whether Coyote Day One makes financial sense for you.
Can I opt out of CDOTA for one or more of my classes but stay in CDOTA for other of my classes?
No, for Fall 2024 you will either be in the CDOTA program for all your classes or out of it for all your classes. It's your choice.
Why am I receiving a message that I can't opt out?
If you see the message below when you try to opt out, it means you have physical books associated with your account which you need to return to the Coyote Bookstore first. If you haven't yet picked up your book, please email coyotedayone@follett.com.
What format will my textbooks be?
Depending on your classes and the course materials your faculty requires, you may receive a combination of digital course materials, printed textbooks, printed lab manual or workbooks.
Where and when will I have access to my digital textbooks and other instructional materials (IM)?
You’ll be able to find your e-books and other digital materials by accessing Canvas, clicking on your course, and then selecting a course module; your books are linked there. Digital materials will be available in Canvas sometime during the week prior to the first day of class or within 24 hours of registration if before census, 9/23.
In what format will the digital textbooks be? Are they downloadable or do I have to be online to read them?
Books will be in pdf format, and they are downloadable in sections. You don't have to be online to read them.
What happens if I add a course?
Within 24 hours of adding a course, students will receive an email at their CSUSB email address (first.last####@coyote.csusb.edu) with details on accessing their digital materials and/or materials are provisioned directly into Canvas. For printed materials, students will receive an email letting them know when the new print materials are ready for pick-up at the Coyote Bookstore.
What happens if I drop a course?
If you drop prior to census (September 23), access to electronic or digital materials will be automatically disabled. Printed materials must be returned to the Coyote Bookstore.
How long will I have access to my digital textbooks?
This is up to the publisher, but for at least 150 days (five months). Some publishers provide access for one to five years.
What are BryteWave and RedShelf?
BryteWave and RedShelf are part of the technology behind CDOTA; it lets you highlight text, bookmark, search, sort and take notes. To access BryteWave, please use your CSUSB email in format [firstname].[lastname][last four of CoyoteID]@coyote.csusb.edu and password. If you have not received an email in your CSUSB email account from BryteWave but believe you have digital textbooks, Log into Brytewave using your CSUSB email address and your BryteWave password. If you do not know your password, select "Forgot Password" and enter your CSUSB email address. The login information will be sent to your CSUSB email.
If my instructor chooses a physical textbook for my class instead of digital format, may I get it delivered to my home?
Yes, please follow these steps:
- Click on this link: Access Shipping Fee: California State University, San Bernardino
- Click “Add to Bag”
- Then click “View Bag & Checkout"
- Click “Checkout” on the right
- Click “Create Account” or “Checkout as Guest”
- Choose “Ship to an Address” and complete requested information
- Enter Student ID in “Special Instructions”
- Follow steps to complete your order
- Please keep your order number handy and include in any communications regarding your order. Please allow 2-3 business days for processing and additional time for transit. No need to add any additional items to your cart.
Do I need to return physical books at the end of the semester?
No, any physical books and other materials provided through CDOTA are yours to keep.
If I opt-out of CDOTA and need to shop for my textbooks, how do I do that?
Opted-out students will need to use the search bar at the top of the Coyote Bookstore website to search for book title or ISBN. Please don't search by course or Coyote ID number as this will display only CDOTA details and not individual pricing for books.

Is there suggested CDOTA language for my syllabus?

Does the Coyote Day One Textbook Access pilot program affect which textbooks and other instructional materials I may choose?
No, you have complete freedom to choose your textbooks and other materials when you place your order through Follett Discover, just as you had previously.
The program is "digital first." Can I opt for paper textbooks?
Yes, while by default the program will provide students with digital-format textbooks if available, you can choose paper textbooks instead when you place your order through Follett Discover.
Does the program cover publisher content, such as that from Cengage, WileyPLUS, McGraw-Hill, and Pearson?
Yes, the Coyote Day One program includes all publisher content.
Can a student get extended access to a textbook due to a grade of Incomplete?
Yes, Follett will work with the faculty member and the student on a case-by-case basis.
