The Educational Opportunity Program at Cal State San Bernardino honored its Class of 2018 and 2019 graduates with a recognition celebration at the Santos Manuel Student Union Events Center. The event, which took place on May 29, honored the 260 students who graduated in the summer and fall of 2018 and winter 2019, and will graduate in the spring and summer of 2019. EOP graduating students who attended the celebration were treated to a catered reception and participated in a recognition ceremony, where they received certificates and medallions with the EOP logo. Scholarships were also be distributed to select EOP graduating students pursuing graduate school, and to current EOP students. EOP graduates learned about the EOP Alumni Chapter and how to continue to be involved with the program. Provost Shari McMahan gave the congratulatory remarks with Dean of Undergraduate Studies Craig Seal recognizing and honoring sociology Professor Mary Texiera for her work as a faculty member and her support of EOP students and its mission. Robert Navarrette, who will receive a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, and Veronica Robles, who will receive a bachelor’s degree in sociology, were the EOP’s student speakers. The CSUSB Educational Opportunity Program helps to provide access to higher education for historically low-income, underserved, underrepresented, disadvantaged students who have the potential to succeed at the university level. EOP recruits, retains and graduates students by providing a comprehensive program of support services that include admission, academic advisement, career and personal counseling, tutoring, financial assistance and graduate school information.
