Bio

Peet Smith is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Teacher Education and has served as the Multiple Subjects Program Coordinator since 2021. Her research focuses on preparing teacher candidates to support elementary students’ engagement in reading as well as the cognitive factors that impact students’ reading comprehension and strategy use. Her work has been published in Contemporary Educational Psychology, Literacy Research and Instruction, and Journal of Literacy Research.

Dr. Smith is especially fulfilled by her work with the diverse body of first-generation college students in the Multiple Subjects Credential Program at CSUSB, as well as the meaningful connections she is developing in surrounding communities to support teacher preparation.
