Imagining the Indian

You're invited to join us today at noon for a screening and panel discussion of the award-winning documentary, Imagining the Indian: The Fight Against Native American Mascoting. The film explores the genesis of the exploitation of Native American culture in competitive sports, including the use of names and logos featuring Indians that have been adopted by teams and franchises with no apparent connection to the tribes and peoples whose cultures they are appropriating.

Come have a relaxing afternoon in the First Peoples Center as we soak in words of wisdom from our Indigenous leaders here at CSUSB. Meet with mentors Dr. Ocampo, Dr. Springer, and Elder Levi will provide over 80+ years of combined knowledge and experience in education as Indigenous people. The atmosphere will be intimate and strengthening. Come have a great experience with us as we continue to celebrate Native American Heritage Month.

Assemblymember James C. Ramos along with Derek Duro & the TM Bird Singers
Closing Ceremony

Assemblymember James C. Ramos is a member of the Serrano & Cahuilla tribes. He is the first California Native American elected to the Legislature. On November 6th, 2018, he was elected to represent the 40th District which includes the cities of Highland, Loma Linda, Rancho Cucamonga, Redlands, and San Bernardino.
