Alumna Cherina Betters ’17 is proud to serve as the first chief of equity and access for the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools. In her role, Betters is a relationship builder who ensures students reach their full potential by providing them the resources and support they need to succeed.

Betters credits the education she received at Cal State San Bernardino for preparing her for the role. She highlights the power of education and reflects on the impact it has had on her life and in the community she serves.

Growing up, Betters was provided limited opportunities, so she has made it her life’s mission to open doors for students. For Betters, education exposes people to diverse perspectives and encourages lifelong learning. Cal State San Bernardino has allowed Betters to live in her purpose, and she is honored to have earned her doctorate at CSUSB.
