CSUSB associate professor writes about how the pursuit of convenience could increase loneliness

In his blog The Art of Living Free, Anthony Silard, CSUSB associate professor of public administration, wrote about ‘the loneliness of convenience,’ the first part of an eight-part series.
Silard says: it is important to create access to the socio-emotional support we all need; experiencing deep psychological benefits often require real-world interaction; and it may be helpful to downsize the comforts of your digital life to develop an authentic community.

Rafik Mohammed, a sociologist and dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at California State University, San Bernardino, was quoted in an article about Black people missing in America and the disparities between Blacks missing compared to whites missing. He said that society assigns value to groups of different people, conscious and unconscious acts, and almost everything in the United States, including the media.
Mohammed recognized a lack of expertise in the media and the press, but his knowledge of the criminal justice system gave him insight into how missing person cases could be handled in different ways.
“Therefore, the results of criminal justice often differ in both the strength of the investigation and the severity of the punishment, but in the context of the media, the amount we collectively care about is formed by us. This perceived value of the victim, whether or not he admits it,” said Mohammed.
