Inland Empire Community News
Nov. 23, 2020

Jessica Getman, assistant professor of music at Cal State San Bernardino, is one of seven new members appointed to the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra board, the community newspaper reported.

Getman is a film musicologist, with emphasis in television studies and science fiction media. Her Ph.D. dissertation at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, was on music and social discourse in the original series of Star Trek, and she has published on George Gershwin, mid-twentieth century television advertising, amateur music-making, music in science fiction, and women composers in film.

The symphony was founded in 1929, but did not formally establish a board until 1963 when founding president of CSUSB, John M. Pfau, was the first to be elected to that office.

CSUSB professor writes on bringing down anxiety during pandemic
Psychology Today
Nov. 23, 2020

Anthony Silard, a CSUSB public administration associate professor, wrote for the blog “The Art of Living Free” on how people can relieve themselves from anxiety that is surging among them because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“To bring your anxiety down to a more manageable level, consider these three strategies: First, transform it into acceptance (of what has already transpired), since you can’t change the past,” Silard wrote. “Second, reconnect with your ambition (to help humanity come together and create a better, safer world) and fervent desire for change. Third, take action (to transform your vision into your daily reality).”
