Cal State San Bernardino’s University Honors Program recognized 20 graduating seniors for their academic success at the program’s annual Spring Awards Banquet on May 13. David Marshall, a professor of English who serves as the program’s director, said the banquet recognized the outstanding work of the graduating seniors during their time at CSUSB and their success in completing the honors program requirements as well as celebrating the program’s success over the past year. Marshall said the 20 students, one of the program’s largest graduating senior classes to date, had an average grade point average of 3.66. The seniors were presented with a special University Honors Program medallion and certificate acknowledging their completion of the program. The seniors are:

  • Zainab Aliyu, political science
  • Saker Awad, computer science
  • Jacey Balleweg, liberal studies
  • Victoria Contreras, English
  • Jennifer Gallardo, biology
  • Guadalupe Guillen, health science
  • Jeanette Jetton-Rangel, English
  • Fabian Lopez, business
  • Gabriel Lopez, mathematics
  • Prince Ogidikpe, psychology
  • Amber Olson, psychology
  • Stephania Ortiz, biochemistry
  • Mellissa Patton, communication studies
  • Asia Pham, psychology
  • Rafael Sanchez Espetunal, nursing
  • Crystal Solano, psychology
  • Grecia Troche, communication studies
  • Karina Vega, biology
  • Savannah Whitehead, liberal studies

 The program also saw the recognition of four students who were presented with Director’s Awards in the following categories:

  • Outstanding Student Servant: Nicole El Maraghy, second-year student, biology
  • Outstanding Student Scholar: Gabriel Lopez
  • Outstanding Student Leader: Asia Pham
  • Outstanding All Around Student: Amber Olson
