Success may be measured in many ways, not just the documenting of test scores. Parents from the community are eager to enroll their students for that special bit of literacy support offered at the Literacy Center. “My daughter, Emily, has been attending Watson & Associates Literacy Center since she was in 1st grade. Emily has been behind in her reading and writing since she began school. During her first quarter at the Center, she was working on vowels and vowel sounds. Her first presentation for the Writing Celebration was very limited. Now, she is in 5th grade and has been a tutee for many years, attending every quarter since she began. Her last presentation during the Writing Celebration was on poetry. She presented with more confidence and read and pronounced words correctly that I never thought she would know. Emily is now able to read books and talk about stories she has read close to her grade level.
The staff, including all the tutors and the Reading Specialist, share Emily’s progress each session with me. Their positive feedback helps me as a parent feel more encouraged about Emily’s ability and success in reading, writing, and speaking. I am very grateful for the time and care that has been given to Emily and all the other students who attend the Center. Each quarter I see improvement in each student during the Writing Celebration. "Mi hija, Emily, ha estado asistiendo al Centro de Alfabetización de Watson & Asociados desde que estaba en el 1er grado. Emily ha estado atrasada en su lectura y escritura desde que comenzó la escuela. Durante su primer trimestre en el Centro, ella estaba trabajando en vocales.
