Roberto Oregel

Roberto S. Oregel is an independent filmmaker, director, and producer whose work spans experimental, narrative, and documentary filmmaking. His films explore art, cultural identity, social justice, underrepresented communities, and human relationships.

His early films include Downtown L.A. (2002), which premiered at REDCAT, Racing Thoughts (2003), which premiered at the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival, and Gronk’s Tormenta: A Method (2002), which screened at festivals and museums in the U.S. and Italy.

In 2004, Oregel was one of five filmmakers selected by Showtime Networks to produce and direct films related to war. His Dominance and Terror: A Discussion with Noam Chomsky was nationally televised on Showtime. His other documentaries include Casa Libre/Freedom House, produced in collaboration with the UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center, and Eloy Take Two (2010), featuring muralist Eloy Torrez and actor and art collector Cheech Marin.

In 2026, Oregel completed Lejanías y Nostalgia, a documentary exploring the life, art, and creative journey of Los Angeles artist Alfredo de Batuc.

Oregel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication & Media at California State University, San Bernardino, where he teaches film, global cinema, digital media, and screenwriting.
