Jurgita Abromaviciute

Jurgita Abromaviciute received her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Arizona in 2018. In her research, Abromaviciute seeks to answer theoretically driven questions with social policy implications. While her interests are diverse, much of her scholarship is motivated by questions of gender inequality and its persistence through structural constraints and status-based social psychological mechanisms. She uses quantitative methods, including laboratory experiments and surveys, as well as qualitative approaches, including in-depth interviews, to understand how social statuses and structures interact to perpetuate gendered inequalities in the workplace and at home. 

In her most recent collaborative project (with Dr. Emily Carian and Dr. Ethel Mickey), Abromaviciute examined how married, different gender, working couples with young children navigated household labor, childcare responsibilities, and career aspirations amid abrupt structural changes. Her earlier collaborative research includes published work in the areas of social neuroscience and social movements. 

Since May 2026, Abromaviciute has been serving as the Vice Chair of the university’s Institutional Review Board (IRB).
